If you and your children are craving healthy, kosher certified snacks, let us tempt you with Unique Pretzel Bakery’s new Sprouted “Splits” and Sprouted Shells. According to the Snack Food Association, Americans spend more than $21 million every day on snacks, and we offer some of the healthiest choices!

Unique Pretzel Bakery has been making pretzels in Reading, PA, since the late 1890s, and the family-owned business hasn’t stopped for six generations. We are probably most well-known for Unique Pretzels “Splits”, a split-open pretzel that packs a serious crunch! We bake 16 different varieties that are available from our online store or in stores along the East Coast, such as Wegmans, Fresh Market, Whole Foods and Giant stores.

Kosher Snacks

We recently introduced the only 100% Whole Grain Sprouted Flour pretzels in the industry. They are kosher certified, USDA Certified Organic, diabetic-friendly, and may benefit people who are sensitive to traditional flours and those who simply want to eat better.

Our Sprouted “Splits” and Sprouted Shells are made with a revolutionary new sprouted flour from Essential Eating® Sprouted Foods. It has excellent baking characteristics and great flavor, but one of its best features is that it is the key ingredient in some of the healthiest snack foods you can eat because the body digests the sprouted whole wheat flour more like a vegetable than a starch.

Are All Pretzels Kosher?

No. Although the flour, water, salt and yeast used to make pretzels are not usually a cause of concern for kosher consumers, shortening, dough conditioners and pretzel flavors can be. For this reason, it’s important to look for the proper kosher designation on packaging to ensure that there has been strict kosher supervision.

On virtually all of Unique Pretzel Bakery products, you will find the letter “U” inside a circle (or “O”) on each package, followed by the letter “D”. These symbols ensure that our pretzels meet the high standards of the Orthodox Union (OU), the most widely recognized kosher certification agency in the world. The “OU-D” symbol indicates that our pretzels are a kosher dairy product and either contain dairy ingredients or are manufactured on equipment that is also used to make products with dairy ingredients.

What is a Sprouted Whole Grain Pretzel?

The majority of the grains we eat today have been processed to give them a softer, finer texture and improve their shelf life. There is nothing wrong with them, but the “refining” process removes the grain’s germ and bran which contain most of their naturally occurring dietary fiber, vitamins and minerals. Even when “enriched” to replace some of the lost nutrients, they are never the same.

When properly sprouted, and rinsed, dried, sifted and milled into flour, 100% of the whole grain and all of its nutrients are preserved. Because the process removes the bitterness found in un-sprouted whole grains, there is no need for sweeteners and other additives to improve the taste. It’s naturally more delicious because it has not been bleached, refined or over-processed. And each serving of pretzels gives you a higher percentage of healthy whole grains.

Unique Pretzel Bakery’s products are kosher certified and delicious. Instead of eating potentially unhealthy snacks, consider our new Sprouted “Splits” and Sprouted Shells that are also low in fat, cholesterol-free, trans fat-free, lactose-free, sugar-free, and high in fiber. Can pretzels possibly get any healthier?
