According to the experts, at least 60% of the processed foods we eat daily contain genetically modified organisms (GMOs). Most grains, such as wheat, are not modified, but you can avoid GMO foods entirely if you look for non GMO pretzels and other products that are specifically labeled as organic and non-GMO.

Non GMO Pretzels

Try Sprouted “Splits” and Sprouted Shells by Unique Pretzels. They are made with organic sprouted 100% whole wheat flour made by Essential Eating® Sprouted Foods, and all ingredients are organic and non-GMO. They are the only 100% whole grain sprouted flour pretzel in the industry and the first to be made with healthier organic extra virgin olive oil. Unique’s non GMO pretzels are a great choice if you are trying to avoid genetically modified foods.

What Are GMOs?

Genetically modified foods are foods produced from GMOs (genetically modified organisms) that have been altered through genetic engineering. Most of the scientific community believes that GMOs in foods pose no greater risk to human health than conventional food, but it’s a controversial topic.

The goal of genetic engineering is to give the original organism new characteristics, such as better resistance to insects and diseases. The theory is that reducing the amount of pesticide chemicals used on plants also reduces the exposure of humans to pesticides and may also help to reduce environmental pollution, greenhouse gas emissions and soil erosion.

Some GMO foods have been engineered to be more nutritious by adding minerals and vitamins. According to the United Nations, this helps battle malnutrition in the developing world. Vitamin A-enhanced rice, for example, is said to be helping reduce global vitamin A deficiencies. But others are concerned that genetic engineering could cause allergic reactions and other health problems.

In the case of wheat, the main ingredient of pretzels and many other snack foods, the USDA has concluded that there is no evidence that any genetically modified wheat is currently being used in commerce.

Unfortunately, while GMO foods are required to be labeled in at least 64 countries, including Australia, China and the European Union, labeling is voluntary in the U.S. and Canada. If you have health concerns related to GMO foods, the only way to avoid them is to always choose USDA Certified Organic foods, which are certified to be GMO-free.

Try Our Non GMO Sprouted Whole Grain Pretzels

Our Sprouted “Splits” and Sprouted Shells are made with a revolutionary new sprouted flour from Essential Eating® Sprouted Foods. It has excellent baking characteristics, great flavor, is kosher certified and USDA Certified Organic, but one of its best features is that the body digests the sprouted whole wheat flour more like a vegetable than a starch.

Properly sprouted whole grains are considered plants and are classified as vegetables by the USDA. They are diabetic-friendly because they don’t require pancreatic enzymes to digest. Unlike un-sprouted grains that have been processed, bleached and refined, sprouted grains retain all of the grain’s natural nutrients. The sprouted whole wheat flour is no longer bitter, and no sweeteners have to be added to improve its taste.

Each serving of Unique Pretzels’ Sprouted “Splits” and Sprouted Shells gives you a higher percentage of healthy whole grains in every bite. They are also kosher, low in fat, cholesterol-free, lactose-free, sugar-free, trans fat-free, and contain only non-GMO ingredients.  Why not give them a try today? You will find them online or at your local Wegmans, Fresh Market, Whole Foods or Giant stores.
